State of linux mobile Anonymous No.9Y_ygvfu
Graphene OS is in limbo, and generally the Android project seems to be at risk with sideloading going to be disallowed by vendors, putting at risk /e/ OS, Lineage OS, and other private android projects.

This has given me renewed interest in the mobile linux ecosystem. For about a year in Uni I full-time drove a pinephone (pic related) and it was functional. I could make phone calls, send text messages, take awful photos, and get directions. It was a very high friction experience though, the pinephone was incredibly underpowered, and it lacked battery life. As soon as I got a job and a girlfriend I had to drop it for a real phone that could do real phone things. Ive been using Graphene OS on a pixel since.

So whats bad?
The Pinephone is still sold. Its good to hack on and its modem has been reverse engineered (iykyk). The Pinephone Pro is cheeks.
The Librem 5 is underpowered PoS.
Theres the Jolla phone which seems decent, but it currently only has 4G support and seems to be out of stock everywhere

Whats good?
The Fairphone seems solid. Its android by default but supports linux projects like Ubuntu Touch. It has actually performative hardware, micro SD support, and a reasonable price of 550 Euro.

The FXTec Pro1 is a keyboard phone with Linux support and seems super nice honestly.

https://community.fxtec.com/topic/3597-pro1-x-with-ubuntu-touch/

Shiftphone 8 has good hardware, kill switches, but it has no aux or micro SD slots. It seems to support PostMarket OS
https://www.shift.eco/en/shiftphone-8/
https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/SHIFT_SHIFTphone_8_(shift-otter)

Volla phones. ALL Volla phones support Ubuntu Touch. Volla has a lot of good options. With phones supporting MicroSD, 5G, and Aux (though no one phone has all of those features). There are no hardware kill switches (though most implementations of those are kind of just a gimmick)
https://volla.online/en/operating-systems/ubuntu-touch/

There seems to be a lot of good hardware options now. FXTec looks really cool, but Volla looks like it has very good linux support.

As far as software goes, Ive found only PostMarketOS (stock or SXMO) and Ubuntu Touch are actually usable day to day.

Anyone here rocking a linux phone day to day? Im really thinking about getting the fxtec

Youtube clamping down Anonymous No.Hu8gdXsG
yt-dlp no longer works without cookie pass through
Freetube is totally broken
All the public invidious instances are usually rate limited and unusable
and Newpipe often wont work if using a VPN

There are a lot of HQ creators on youtube but it seems I cant actually watch them without being brain-blasted by the algorithm (that, or if they have a patreon pay and watch there)

Can anyone share working methods to get yt media without interacting with yt platform?
Anonymous No.4m36I_pu
freetube works again but videos wont usually load under vpn

try these ublock filters it is interacting with the yt platform but it ensures an algorithm free experience

Can you rebuild your database or whatever? I am stuck in limbo in several rooms and it seems to be the multiple event bug.
Anonymous No.u0didjXS
You'd have to provide some screenshots. I have multiple accounts across multiple clients based on wired.rehab and have had no issues.

I can force remove your account from bad rooms though. It is a common issue that when larger rooms upgrade their room version some accounts are stuck in purgatory, half-in half-out, it happened to a lot of people in the Graphene room.

Give me some error codes though and I can help you where I can

The Boomer Box Anonymous No.rHw6I9Wh
After my Father retired I have slowly watched him turn from being a politically distant, rational, and moderate man to becoming a intensely activated, hateful, and emotional man.

I know its cause is the steady diet of Fox News and YouTube autoplay, as that is all I see he watches. His YouTube feed on the Roku is filled with AI generated bullshit, and he just passively absorbs it all.

I want to prevent this. I know this is happening to thousands at least. So I am starting the 'Boomer Box' project. A box of pleasant nostalgia to keep the Boomer stimulated and entertained without warping their identity.

The goals are as follows:
1. A large catalog of high-quality nostalgic shows and movies
2. Access to web broadcasts of 'decent' news stations
3. Be easily reproducible for non-techy sons and daughters. Easily deployable on low-spec low-storage hardware (Think shitty laptop with an HDMI port)

Right now this is just an idea, but I will continue to update this post and my replies as I work on actualizing it.

So far for this I'm using Jellyfin as a server that I will host this media on, and I'll put the Jellyfin client on an Android TV. I'm going to pick the ONN Android TV because it's cheap and is a common piece of hardware with decent community support around it.

This guide here for instance details how to debloat the thing. I intend to uninstall all default Apps but the Jellyfin client.

What I've learned so far is I've really underestimated the size of local media. Im going to have to rebuild this server fairly soon with large full-size hard-drives just to fit all that I've specified in my earlier posts. Maybe some of those 24tb seagates LOL.

For now I'm getting a few seasons of the highlights to have something 'good enough' to keep the boomers attention and not go back to hardcore porn or fox news.
